TIM-BR MART - TIMBRKIDS HELPS NOVA SCOTIA HEARING AND SPEECH FOUNDATION RAISE OVER $50,000

April 14, 2009 - Halifax, NS:  Volunteers, sponsors, ticket purchasers and guests from across Nova Scotia came together on April 4 in Halifax to support the Nova Scotia Hearing & Speech Foundation at an inaugural black tie Monte Carlo Night. The event, held in Casino Nova Scotia’s spectacular Schooner Showroom, was a huge success, meeting its objectives of raising money to purchase capital equipment for the 30 Nova Scotia Hearing & Speech Centres across the province and raising awareness of the Nova Scotia Hearing & Speech Foundation.

Brian and Cherie MacDonald from Swinamer’s TIM-BR MART in Windsor, Nova Scotia represented the Timbrkids Charitable Foundation at the event. They were happy to draw for the evening’s grand prize which Timbrkids’ $5400 donation purchased - a trip for two to Monte Carlo, Monaco.

Timbrkids is TIM-BR MART’s national children's charity, which allows TIM-BR-MARTS Ltd. and TIM-BR MART Dealers across Canada to give back to the communities in which they business. Because family values are so important to the people who own and work at TIM-BR MARTS, the entire focus of Timbrkids is on the health and well being of children. Timbrkids presently has a call for proposals from community groups who could use funding to benefit children and youth organizations. Visit www.timbr.com for more information on this program.

The money raised at the Nova Scotia Gaming Corporation Monte Carlo Night in support of Nova Scotia Hearing & Speech Foundation on April 4 will benefit the Nova Scotia Hearing & Speech Centres’ Sound Start Program. This program supports newborn hearing screening for the 9,000 infants born in Nova Scotia birthing hospitals every year, and identifies and provides early intervention for the 13,000 Nova Scotian preschoolers living with a hearing, speech or language disorder.

Nova Scotia Hearing & Speech Centres also serves adults who have communication challenges as the result of head injury or diseases like Parkinsons, cancer of the throat and ALS. They are an important partner with the Cochlear Implant Program of Nova Scotia and help to protect workers’ hearing though the industrial and community audiology program.
